THE BIG NIGHT OUT TOUR HITS MIZNER PARK TO A SOLD OUT CROWD

Boca Raton was treated to a great night out last night with the arrival of OAR and the Goo Goo Dolls to the Mizner Park Amphitheater. The heat wave South Florida continues to endure, along with the fact that this is a mid-week concert, did nothing to stop the fans from coming out and filling the venue to sold-out status.

I must admit that I arrived at Mizner late and only caught the last two songs of opener OAR. Judging by the crowd reaction, it was a great set. Their vocal delivery and sound were on point and had the crowd in the palm of their hand. OAR pushed out a 14 song set that featured "This Town", "California", "Miss You All The Time", and a great cover of Billy Joel's "The Downeaster Alexa". The band capped off the show with "Shattered (Turn The Car Around)" and "Hey Girl". Hopefully we will see OAR return again soon so I can see their full set. After a brief intermission and a set change, the long-awaited Goo Goo Dolls took to the stage to a boisterous and cheering crowd.

Right out of the gate, the Goo Goo Dolls hit hard with "Broadway", "Over and Over", "Slide", and "Dizzy". The threat of rain was nowhere to be found and the audience was one of the best I have seen in awhile. Although this is a contained amphitheater, it had a music festival aura about it. Large LED screens behind the stage displayed colorful images throughout the show and both Johnny and Robby looking and sounding better than ever.

This show has a rather large set-list and you will get so much for the price of admission. With a total of 27 songs in all, they pretty much touched on every album, providing a little something for everyone. "Here Is Gone", " So Alive", "Come To Me", "name", and Long Way Down" were super-rocking highlights of this show. The Goo Goo Dolls threw two covers in the mix. Supertramps "Give A Little Bit" and Tom Petty's "Won't Back Down" were well received and performed to perfection with a little Goo Goo dust sprinkled on them for that little extra flavor.

With 26 songs in the can, there is only one song left to play... Can you guess which one? It is from the City Of Angels soundtrack. The conclusion of the show encored with the ever-favorite "Iris". From the opening lines of the song, the audience was in the pocket singing every line and went into overdrive for the chorus, belting out the lyrics at the top of their lungs. I am quite sure that the city of Boca Raton was also singing along as well.

The Goo Goo Dolls The Big Night Out Tour is just that. It is a great night out of great music and fun. This tour is in its infancy and might be coming to a city near you. Check out googoodolls.com for all that you need to know about the Goo Goo Dolls and their upcoming tour dates and information. This is definitely one show you do not want to miss.
