THE ALLMAN BETTS BAND AT THE FUNKY BISCUIT IN BOCA RATON. A LIVE PERFORMANCE REVIEW

BACK ON THE ROAD AGAIN, THE ALLMAN BETTS BAND DOES NOT DISAPPOINT AT THE FUNKY BISCUIT

THE ALLMAN BETTS BAND

Since The Allman Brothers Band’s 20th anniversary summer tour in 1989, Devon Allman and Duane Betts have been making music together. With legendary blood in their veins passed on by their uber-talented fathers Gregg Allman and Dickey Betts, the two, along with their band of brothers, set out to carry on the legacy of music set before them by their fathers and to add a new generation of sound to complement the latter. With that, success was made.

The Allman Betts Band have been longing to scrape the pavement since the pandemic of 2020 forced those around the world into their homes and touring bands from attending to their craft. The band, however, took advantage of this opportunity to spend quality time with their families that are usually robbed of them from being on the road three-quarters of the year. Time was also taken to rehearse and work on songs written across America on the tour bus and in hotels. Their new album, Bless Your Heart, is the result.

With the pandemic still raging on, The Allman Betts band is hitting the road with select tour dates throughout the country. Facebook concerts were the launchpad for what has turned into social-distancing drive-in concerts, and now club dates. The band played a show last night at the Funky Biscuit in Boca Raton, Florida to a socially-distanced full house and blew the roof off the place.

Hitting the stage at 9:50 pm, The Allman Betts Band launched into an eight-song set of music that is new but has the classic Allman Brothers sound and feel. The setlist for tonight included the following songs…

1: Pale Horse Rider

2: Savannah’s Dream

3: Down The River

4: You Got Lucky

5: Magnolia Road

6: Shakedown Street

7: King Crawler

8: Airboats & Cocaine

Added to the setlist was an impromptu version of the classic Prince song Purple Rain, which was a complete surprise. I heard that you can never hold the band to the setlist as it depends on the mood of what is played on a particular night. The hungry-for-live-music crowd was just as pumped as the band as music played well into the night.

The Allman Betts Band will be at the Funky Biscuit again tonight for two performances at 6 pm & at 9 pm. Visit the Funky Biscuit website at https://www.funkybiscuit.com for ticket. For future tour dates and merchandise, visit The Allman Betts Band website at https://www.allmanbettsband.com.
